Christmas in the desert!

Anyone not from Arizona might think that the holiday season here doesn't feel like it does in the rest of the country. I am happy to say that is not the case. Arizona has two rainy seasons one being the monsoons at the end of summer and the other right now. While the snow that comes along with these winter storms falls mostly at higher elevations, typically 4000 feet or higher above sea level, it is pretty cold her in the basin as well. Night time lows in the 20s require covering of plants and pipes and early morning fog makes the drive to work much more interesting. Living by the Rillito River our house runs about 5 degrees colder than other areas of town requiring an ice scraper some mornings just to see through the windshield. So while we don't typically get to enjoy a white Christmas, Jack Frost still nips at our noses and the fire inside is delightful! On those rare and wondrous occasions when the snow falls in the Tucson basin our world is transformed into a winter wonderland with snow capped saguaros and white playgrounds full of excited children and parents throwing snowballs and building snowmen as fast as they can. Rest assured by afternoon the snow will be gone, melted and run off down a usually dry riverbed to nourish a beautiful wildflower season come spring, but that's another blog altogether!!!

Wishing you and yours a happy and blessed holiday season where ever you may celebrate! See you next year! Love and Light!
